The Community Greenhouse Project

The Tyler Street Business Group and Blueline Design, Inc. are looking for community input and interest in The Community Greenhouse Project. In line with the mission of the Tyler Street Business Group to support and promote economic development  for Tyler Street and the Morningside neighborhood,  The Community Greenhouse Project proposes to develop a growing greenhouse to encourage the practice of urban agriculture.

Tyler Street Business Group has formed a committee to develop further a proposal to convert the former bowling lanes of the historic Eagles Club, on First Street, into a growing greenhouse as both a form of economic re-vitalization and to address the essential community need to make more available fresh food.

The committee invites businesses and non-profits to learn more about The Greenhouse Project and provide input to the proposal. This collaborative project will bring together sponsors, business partners, entrepreneurs and businesses in the food industry to provide qualified applicants with a local resource – a greenhouse - for developing and supporting food-related product and service businesses.

A properly established greenhouse operation in an urban area can support and enhance local neighborhood businesses, encourage community involvement, create student internships and employment opportunities, and facilitate smart growth and a local food economy.  To this end, the committee is developing plans that include the design and construction of the greenhouse and a plant yard, with an operating plan that will be self sustaining.

Interested businesses, non-profits and food entrepreneurs, in the area and beyond, are encouraged to contact Anthony Barnaba of Blueline Design Inc at (413) 442-7100. Also visit for more information on this business initiative.
